Translating SPF
If Simple:Press Forum is not available in your language and you have the necessary translating skills then please do consider creating a new language pack. But first – visit our languages pages to make sure your language has not been started by someone else.
Making a translation is fairly straightforward. The raw language file (known as the .po file), is in English. The best and easiest tool to use is a program called poEdit (free to download) which is available for all major operating systems. You simply open the .po file in poEdit and use the editing windows to enter your translated text.
When you save your work, poEdit will save the changes in the .po file and also create an .mo file which is the compiled language file that is used in Simple:Press Forum to display the correct language.
Please note that when you encounter the characters ‘%s’ in the English text, this denotes a placeholder which Simple:Press Forum will fill with a value. It is important that all references to %s be preserved or the creation of the ,mo file will cause an error.
Finally, when the translation is complete, we hope you will share it with the community who speak your language. Just follow the instructions in the language forum. And thank you for showing an interest.
