Theme Too Narrow

All forums display best when they have enough horizontal space to utilise but many – perhaps most – WordPress themes may not provide enough column width on their standard page template. This is particularly noticeable when using the editor to add new topics and posts and a common support question is what to do about the editor and posts being cut off on the right hand side.

There are three main options available.

Theme and Theme Templates

Check if your theme comes with a full width page template. Some theme authors provide such a template that will remove sidebars to enable a full width display. If such a template exists, edit the forum page to use this template to see if that resolves the problem and is an acceptable solution. If no such template exists, consider changing your theme to one that will provide the width the forum needs.

Modify the Editor Toolbar

The forum will attempt to display at the width of the editor toolbar. It requires, as a minimum, this amount of space. Consider using an alternative editor (like the HTML or bbCode editors). Or – you could remove some of the least used buttons and options from the tinyMCE toolbar to trim it down to the required size. To accomplish this navigate to Forum ☛ Components ☛ Editor Toolbar where you are able to remove and re-order the toolbar buttons.

Create a Custom Forum Template

The best option is to create a custom template just for the forum. This allows you full control over the width and look and feel of your forum page display.
